"Are the lights flickering..." I said, puzzled, as I stared at the little electric 'flames' of the nearest chandelier, "Or is it just my imagination?"
I was treating my husband & Amy & myself to dinner at a quaint gourmet restaurant situated in a small county inn, as that was how I had decided to spend the pay I had recently received for serving as an elected member of the local school board for the year which had just passed. Hubby & daughter deserved to have a role in enjoying the recompense, as they have to put up with me being a school board member...
My daughter, seated next to me at the table, said, "Um, yeah... I think it's supposed to be like they're real candles, and they're flickering."
Have you noticed that 'flameless' candles are the new thing? I guess it makes sense, in a way, because so many fires are started by idiots who leave real candles burning next to (duh) flammable objects.
Still... I'm sorry, folks, but the mystique of fire cannot be duplicated by electricity, no matter how much fake flickering goes on.
I've even seen advertisements on TV for a little device that not only imitates a candle by flickering flamelessly, but 'freshens' (ie. infuses with a nauseating perfume-like scent) the air of any given room. Fake flame & false freshness. *gag*
