Pixie

I wrote this little tidbit over two years ago, shortly after I purchased my first MP-3 player back in January 2006. I thought perhaps my advanced new Sansa MP-3 (containing over a hundred songs) would have the capacity to shuffle a little more thoroughly than the old Ilo, but it does not. The songs (and artists) that it favors are slightly different, the the deck's still stacked. Hence, I shall repeat this little snippet for your entertainment:

I love it, but it seems to have a mind of it's own.My Ilo MP-3 player, that is.

I've got 26 songs recorded onto it, and I like to listen to them using the 'shuffle' mode, so they're not played in the same order. Problem is, that the Maniacal Pixie seems to shuffle with a stacked deck. Forgive me while I anthropomorphize, but she seems to have her own favorites.

Oh, I know- if I paid close enough attention I would probably figure out that the songs I hear most frequently on 'shuffle' are the ones that were downloaded first, or that they're sort of stuck in alphabetical order, or something. But it's fun to imagine...I only kept one of the half-dozen or so songs that came free with the player. Maniacal Pixie seems to favor that one. Perhaps out of a sense of loyalty.

She has a fondness for some artists over others, too. She definitly likes Nine Inch Nails better then The Killers. She likes REM better than The Cure.

And I hardly EVER here Steve Forbert's "Romeo's Tune"- What's up with THAT, Pixie?
