Ingredients

“They’re the same, right? What’s the difference?”

Amber and I were baking a pumpkin pie. She was to make the filling, and I was to make the crust. Pumpkin pie recipes always call for Evaporated Milk.

But... what my husband had purchased was... Sweetened Condensed Milk.

And I didn’t know. What the difference is. They both come in similar sized cans... both have the consistency of snot...

“The grocery store was a mad-house. I thought Evaporated Milk and Sweetened Condensed Milk were one and the same. So that’s what I grabbed. I’ll run out and get it for you...”

“No.” I said, “We’re just baking a pie for ourselves, not to be judged in a contest or something. We’ll use what we have. It‘s OK.”

We put a little less sugar than the recipe called for, and a dribble of molasses. And it turned out REALLY GOOD.

As did the rest of our small family’s modest Thanksgiving feast.

“Thanksgiving without drama.” my husband said, “That’s what I like!”
