Commuter Nerd

That morning,

The signboard (on Route 16) said, “6 miles to tolls, 6 minutes

Ordinary commuters just smiled, now knowing there would be no delays.

But Commuter Nerd thought:

“Six miles in six minutes.  That’s 60 miles per hour.”

“BUT,” she puzzled,” the speed limit between here and the tolls is 55 miles per hour all the way.”

“Is it a case of State sanctioned speeding?” Commuter Nerd wondered,

“Then again, is 5 miles an hour over the speed limit really speeding?”

“Is there a proven additive margin of error applicable to both speedometers and clocks that renders the question moot?”

“Or is the DOT really bad at math?”

“Or do they think we are?”

“I KNOW!” Commuter Nerd rejoiced, “They can’t FIT ‘6 miles to tolls in 6.5454 minutes’ on the sign!

Ooops.  I missed my exit.”
