“Oh, I forgot one. Pelvic fracture.”
I was lying on the x-ray table of the small mobile bone density clinic which visits my local hospital on a weekly basis. The technician had retreated to her tiny office on the far side of the unit while the x-ray machine was doing its thing. As I listened to the staccato buzzing noise that the device made as it slid over the table on which I lay, I surmised that she must be reviewing my answers to the health history questionnaire that I had filled out shortly before hopping onto the table.
She wanted to know if I had sustained all those fractures on the same date. As I answered affirmatively, the machine happened to be moving over my hips, which reminded me that I had forgotten to include pelvic in my ‘head to toe’ litany of fractures.
As she continued the review, one more answer sparked a cross-examination.
“You went through menopause at an early age.” she said, seeking confirmation or correction.
“Yes.” I answered, and then, after a short pause I added a flippant, “Thank God!”
We both laughed. It’s a woman thing.
So, yeah, after months of waiting the scan is finally done. And in a couple weeks my doc will have the results.
