Giant Insect

Written by Garnet on January 7, 2006

The shadows were long. Shadows are always long in winter. Although it was very cold, my (13 year old, at the time) daughter and I decided to take a walk in order to get some fresh air and exercise. We came to an area where the trees were sparse, and the sun shown brightly.

I stopped, turned with my back toward the sun, and initiated a ritual. I said, "Hey, Amy!" and then extended my arms to the side, bent at the elbow, wrists flapping. Amy giggled and ran to stand tightly in front of me, following suit with her own arms and hands. We looked with laughter and satisfaction at the shadow we created- a giant insect with 4 legs frantically waving.

The ritual dates back to the time she was a little girl. I am happy that she has not outgrown such silliness. I hope she never does.
